The research activity of the Department focuses on studies of new molecular markers of neoplastic and metabolic diseases as well as developing new therapeutic approaches with nucleic acids and their derivatives.
We are working on:

  • Construction of new ribozymes and DNAzymes for the inhibition of miRNA  (A),

  • Analysis of the secondary structure of miRNAs specific for brain tumors using catalytic RNAs (B),

  • Analysis of the content of 5-methylcytosine in DNA from brain tumors and other human pathologies (C),

  • Assessment of 5-methylcytosine content in DNA from deciduous seeds,

  • Analysis of non-coding RNAs in humans and in plants,

  • Determination of the content of 8-oxoguanosine and m5C in DNA from brain tumors (D),

  • Application of low molecular weight compounds in the therapy of brain tumors.
