Chemistry of nucleotides
Chemistry of nucleosides
H-Phosphonates of nucleosides (or of other biomolecules) can serve as precursors of a wide range of phosphoric acid derivatives (e.g. di- and triesters, phosphorothioates, phosphoramidates, boranophosphonates, etc.), also in stereocontrolled synthesis.
Pronucleotides carrying a molecule of antiviral dideoxynucleosides (AZT, 3TC, ddU, d4T, ABC, etc.), containing heteroaromatic substituents in the phosphate part, show low cytotoxicity for cells and very strong inhibition of the proliferation of retroviruses, e.g. HIV. Antitumor pronucleotides can be prepared in an analogous manner.
Acyclovir, a potent and selective antiviral drug, is produced in some countries (Japan, China) according to the method invented in our lab.
New isomer of adenosine, 1-β-D-ribofuranosyladenine, detected in our study on mechanism of ribosylation in the purine series.
