Professor Hieronim Jakubowski died

It is with great regret that we have received the news of the death of Professor Hieronim Jakubowski, an outstanding biochemist, molecular biologist and geneticist, an employee of the Institute from 2002 to 2016, an academic teacher at the Poznań University of Life Sciences and Rutgers University in the United States. Professor Jakubowski was a pioneer in the study of corrective mechanisms in the translation of the genetic code and the metabolism of sulphur amino acids, especially homocysteine and its role in heart and brain diseases.

We bid farewell to an outstanding scientist of great international standing, a promoter of scientific personnel, an organiser of science and an educator of many generations of researchers.

The Professor died on 22 February 2025 in New Jersey at the age of 79.

We extend our condolences to the Professor’s family and all those close to him.
