An independent jury, led by Prof. Ewa Łojkowska, has, for the 23rd time, presented the L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science. Among the six honored scientists selected from 274 nominees, a doctoral student from our Institute, Angelika Andrzejewska-Romanowska from the Department of RNA Structure and Function, was recognized for her project titled “Characterization of the structural and functional dynamics of RNA genomes of active retrotransposons LTR.” The awards ceremony took place on the 14th of November in Warsaw.
During the ceremony, Prof. Michał Kleiber, the chairman of the Polish Committee for UNESCO, emphasized that women still have to combat stereotypes that limit their professional development opportunities. Therefore, there is a constant need for systemic solutions to support women in science.
On the other hand, the jury chair, Prof. Ewa Łojkowska, wished the laureates equal treatment and gender solidarity. She also mentioned that more women should hold managerial positions in universities. In her opinion, only with gender equality introduced, science in Poland and globally will be able to fully harness the potential of the entire population.
Congratulations to the scholarship winner, and our best wishes for continued success.
