On January 14, 2025, at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS, a meeting was held with the Directorate of the Institute of Human Genetics PAS in Poznań. Participants included Prof. Maciej Giefing, Director of IHG PAS, along with his two deputies: Małgorzata Dawidowska, PhD, DSc (Deputy Director for Research), and Natalia Rozwadowska, PhD, DSc (Deputy Director for Development). IBCH PAS was represented by Luiza Handschuh, PhD, DSc, Director of the Institute, Magdalena Łuczak, PhD, DSc, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, and two former directors—Prof. Andrzej Legocki and Prof. Marek Figlerowicz.
During the meeting, plans for expanding cooperation between the institutes were discussed, common areas of interest were identified, and a range of scientific initiatives, knowledge dissemination events, and organizational solutions were proposed to benefit both institutions.
Both institutes were established around the same time and in a similar manner, originating from small departments of the Polish Academy of Sciences affiliated with larger scientific units: IHG PAS emerged from the Department of Human Genetics PAS at Collegium Anatomicum of the Poznań Medical Academy (in 1974), while IBCH PAS originated from the Department of Stereochemistry of Natural Products PAS, affiliated with the Institute of Organic Chemistry PAS in Warsaw (in 1969). Today, they are among the most dynamic PAS institutes in Poland, conducting research in four scientific disciplines: medical sciences (IHG PAS), biological sciences, chemical sciences, and information and communication technology (IBCH PAS).
