New members of the Polish Academy of Sciences have been elected

Elections of new full members and correspondent members of the Polish Academy of Sciences were held on June 26, 2025.  Members of the Academy are elected by the General Assembly of the Academy from among distinguished Polish and foreign scientists who are recognized for outstanding scientific achievements, authority, and good reputation.

We are pleased to announce that within Division IV – Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Marta Szachniuk, head of the Department of Structural Bioinformatics, and recipient of the Bronze Cross of Merit awarded for her contribution to the development of science, has been elected a correspondent member. Prof. Szachniuk’s scientific articles have been published in prestigious journals such as Nature Methods and Nucleic Acids Research, and her team specializes in RNA structure prediction, modeling, and analysis.

The 45 newly elected correspondent members of PAS also include other prominent scholars, such as Prof. Krzysztof Sobczak and Prof. Andrzej Jagodzinski (Division II – Biological and Agricultural Sciences, PAS) and Prof. Marcin Drąg (Division III – Computational Sciences and Earth Sciences, PAS).

As a result of the election, 30 current PAS correspondent members were also granted the status of full members, including former members of the Scientific Council of ICHB PAS: Prof. Krzysztof Nowak and Prof. Grzegorz Węgrzyn(Division II – Biological and Agricultural Sciences, PAS).
