Science on the Trail – this time in Turew

On Friday, September 11, we inaugurated the lecture series “Science on the Trail” at the Turew Palace. The event was organized by the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS as part of the program Organic Work – The Legacy of the People of Greater Poland”.

Professor Marek Figlerowicz delivered two lectures, offering the audience a fascinating lesson that combined biology with the history of our country. In the first one, entitled What do we inherit from our ancestors?, he explained in a clear and engaging way the molecular basis of inheritance, the process of recombination, and what connects us with both our close and distant ancestors.

In the second lecture – “How did the Piast state emerge?” – Prof. Figlerowicz discussed the origins of humankind and the beginnings of the first Polish state. He explained the difference between narrated history and biological history, and showed what we can learn thanks to modern knowledge and advanced research methods.

The meeting brought together a large group of participants, including the local community and school youth. The atmospheric interiors of the palace created a unique setting, while the break with refreshments on the veranda encouraged lively discussions and questions.

We sincerely thank all participants for joining us and invite you to the next meeting at the Turew Palace, which will take place on October 2nd. This time, we will hear two lectures: “Society of the Piast State” and The origins of the Piast dynasty“.

The project is carried out as part of the “Organic Work – The Legacy of the People of Greater Poland” program, held along the Organic Work Trail — an initiative coordinated by the General Dąbrowski Palace in Winna Góra. The project is co-financed by the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
