Symposium “RNA Biology in Disease”

On June 24th, a mini-symposium titled “RNA Biology in Disease” was held at our Institute. It was organized by the Department of Medical Biotechnology, headed by Agnieszka Fiszer, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. The event featured two researchers passionate about RNA studies, who delivered lectures on the role of microRNAs in disease and on the pathogenesis of Huntington’s disease.

Dr. Katarzyna Goljanek-Whysall from the National University of Ireland in Galway (Galway RNA Research Cluster) gave a presentation titled “microRNAs and microRNA oxidation in muscle ageing and disease”.

Dr. Sandra Fienko from University College London, Institute of Neurology (Department of Neurodegenerative Disease), presented a lecture titled “Investigating nuclear retention and condensate formation of human mutant huntingtin transcripts as a novel molecular signature of Huntington’s disease”.

The symposium provided an excellent opportunity for scientific discussions. Dr. Katarzyna Goljanek-Whysall’s participation took place as part of her two-day study visit to our Institute. During her visit, results of a collaborative project involving our Institute were also discussed, along with plans for future research.

Agnieszka Fiszer and invited speakers in the seminar room of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences. They are all smiling.
