The ninth edition of the cyclical summer science event called “Science on Vacation”, aimed at popularizing knowledge among the public, is now behind us. The event, which was held at the Conference, Training, and Recreational Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Jurata, attracted numerous participants, including both residents of Jurata and guests from surrounding towns on the Hel Peninsula.
This year’s series featured eight open lectures covering current topics in biology, medicine, chemistry, bioinformatics, and social sciences.
The seminars presented global achievements and the research potential of Polish scientific centers. We were very pleased with the participants’ engagement and high turnout, which far exceeded our expectations. Some seminars were attended by more than 100 people, not only from Poland but also from the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Participants in “Science on Vacation” included teachers, students, doctors, and high school students, reflecting the broad interest in science and the need to provide reliable knowledge. The wide range of questions directed at the lecturers demonstrated the high level of interest in the topics covered.
The organization of the event was supported by numerous institutions and companies, including the Polish Academy of Sciences, Polpharma Pharmaceutical Works S.A., Biofarm Sp. z o.o., Merck Life Science Sp. z o.o., Strauss Cafe Poland Sp. z o.o., Dan Cake Polonia Sp. z o.o., the NanoBioMedical Centre at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań, and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.
We would especially like to thank Professor Jan Barciszewski for hosting the lectures, as well as all the speakers, participants, and sponsors for jointly creating this unique event.
