On September 8, the Institute hosted prof. Józef Dulak, a world-class specialist in the field of stem cell biology. Prof. Dulak is the head of the Department of Medical Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, a full member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of Academia Europaea, and from 2020 also vice-chairman of the Committee of Biotechnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Together with his team, he studies the mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases and congenital neuromuscular diseases, as well as the possibilities of stem cells’ application in the treatment of these diseases. At the Institute, he gave a lecture entitled “Induced pluripotent stem cells for cardiac disease modelling and experimental therapy of heart failure”.
