Professor Mariusz Jaskólski nominated for Heisig Prize

We are proud to announce that Professor Mariusz Jaskólski has been nominated for the Heisig Prize, one of the highest scientific financial awards in Poland. The prize, established in December 2020, is awarded every two years by the University of Wrocław to a researcher working in Poland whose achievements in world science are recognised as outstanding and innovative in their field. The founder is Professor Norbert Heisig, a German physician, classical philologist and social activist, the founder and long-standing president of the German-Polish Society at the University of Wroclaw.

The first awarded scientist of the Heisig Prize, in 2021, was Professor Jan Potempa, a biochemist and microbiologist from the Jagiellonian University, for his discovery of the biochemical mechanisms of the link between bacterial periodontal disease and autoimmune reactions.

Professor Jaskólski was nominated in the chemical sciences category for his structural studies of proteins, which are of great importance for the development of medicine, and for his contribution to the improvement of X-ray crystallography methods. In the first stage of the 2nd edition of the competition, representatives from twenty national universities selected eight candidates, three of whom were nominated for the prize. The name of the winner will be announced on 2 October 2023.
