Funding for research by scientists from IBCH PAS under the NAWA program

In this year’s edition of the Canaletto competition – a joint research project initiative between Poland and Italy – funding was awarded to 16 research teams. From our Institute, funding was granted to the proposal titled “Fighting glioblastoma invasiveness: comprehensive transcriptome profiling in time and space based on a new hybrid cellular model”, coordinated by Katarzyna Rolle, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. Scientists from the Department of Molecular Neurooncology will collaborate on this project with the team from the Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Padova, led by Professor Stefania Bortoluzzi.

The main goal of the project is to describe the interactions between gliomas and healthy brain tissues during tumor invasion. The project involves the use of a novel tumor invasion model based on hybrid cultures of glioma cells and organoids mimicking the structure of the human brain. To understand the mechanisms of invasion, the first comprehensive transcriptomic analysis (mRNA, miRNA, circRNA, and lncRNA) will be conducted, which will expand our understanding of the signaling pathways activated during the invasion process. Additionally, the collected data may support modern therapies aimed at inhibiting the invasion of glioblastoma cells into healthy brain tissue.

Congratulations to the team, and we wish fruitful collaboration!
