New Professorship at IBCH PAS

It is with great joy and pride that we announce that the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, by his decision dated February 18, 2025, has conferred the title of Professor in the field of natural sciences, in the discipline of chemical sciences, to Marcin Krzysztof Chmielewski, PhD, DSc.

Prof. Marcin Chmielewski specializes in bioorganic chemistry, with a particular focus on the chemical synthesis of biomolecules. He is the creator of thermosensitive molecular tools, such as thermolabile protecting groups, thermo-removable fluorescent tags, and temperature-dependent polymers. As the head of the Department of Biopolymer Chemistry, he conducts research on, among other topics, the phosphorylation of biopolymers, the synthesis of small-molecule signaling compounds, and the development of new, functional polymer materials. The results of this research hold significant application potential, including their use as drug carriers or substrates for solid-phase chemical synthesis.

Prof. Chmielewski is a member of the Committee on Chemistry at the Poznań branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his outstanding contributions to the fight against biological threats.

Congratulations and best wishes for continued success in scientific endeavors!
