“Science on the Trail” project – another lecture held

On Wednesday, August 27, the second lecture in the Science on the Trail” series took place, organized by the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS as part of the program “Organic Work – The Legacy of the People of Greater Poland”.

The event was hosted at the Municipal Public Library in Kościan. The speaker, once again, was Prof. Marek Figlerowicz, who this time delivered a lecture titled What do we inherit from our ancestors?.

Prof. Figlerowicz explained the molecular basis of inheritance in a clear and accessible way. He described with what precision our genomes are copied and what the consequences of this process are, and he also explained the phenomenon of recombination. He emphasized that the genome of every human being is a complex mosaic of randomly selected fragments of the genomes of their ancestors. He then discussed what we inherit within our closest family, from other close representatives of the Homo genus, as well as what we inherit as Europeans.

The numerous participants eagerly asked questions, and the atmosphere of the meeting was exceptionally pleasant.

We sincerely thank everyone for attending and invite you to the next lectures, which will be held at the Municipal Public Library in Kościan and at the Palace in Turew. The program and planned dates can be found below.
