On Friday, January 16, 2026, after a longer break in organizing this event, our Institute once again opened its doors to participants of Biologists’ Night. The event welcomed younger and older children, high school students, and adults. Everyone enthusiastically explored the secrets of life through demonstrations, interactive games, and workshops.

This year’s Biologists’ Night was held under the theme “Biology full of signals – discover how life communicates”. Our guests explored the world of science in various ways. Using interactive neuron models, they observed how neurons respond to light, sound, color, and movement, learning how neurons “talk” to each other. In the young geneticists’ activity, participants created genetic portraits of a girl or a boy by selecting alleles from “mom” and “dad” and observing how small genetic differences influence a child’s appearance. They also had the chance to closely examine carnivorous plants and discover the extraordinary stories hidden in seeds, which resembled pebbles, tiny sculptures, or sometimes other unusual shapes. Under the microscope, they observed tiny Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes, learning how these little worms move, what they eat, and why they are so important for science. Additionally, they got a behind-the-scenes look at preclinical research in mice and learned what happens in the laboratory before medicines reach humans.

High school students participated in scientific workshops, where they explored the fascinating world of modern genetic engineering. They conducted experiments themselves and discovered that molecular biology tools are not just theoretical—they are technologies that are already changing the world today.
