On 18 March 2026, the 144th plenary meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS was held.
During the meeting, the Director of the Institute, Luiza Handschuh, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., presented a report on the Institute’s activities in 2025. In her presentation, she discussed the most important events of the past year and summarized the Institute’s scientific activities and achievements during that period.
The Council discussed the election of a new Secretary of the Council and considered the justification for appointing a Deputy Secretary.
The Council also discussed nominations for the Award of Division II of Biological and Agricultural Sciences PAS in the category for an outstanding research discovery published in the most prestigious scientific journals, as well as nominations for the Prime Minister’s Awards for achievements in scientific activity and for highly rated achievements forming the basis for awarding the habilitation degree.
Members of the committee responsible for conducting the competition for the Deputy Plenipotentiary for PSNC for scientific affairs were elected.
Changes to the statute and to documents concerning doctoral degree procedures were discussed. The Council also reviewed proposed amendments to the IPAN Doctoral School Regulations, the Recruitment Regulations, and the Education Program.
During the meeting, the postdoctoral degree (doktor habilitowany) was awarded to Dr. Joanna Banasiak, Dr. Katarzyna Klonowska, Dr. Witold Andrałojć, and Dr. Natalia Szóstak. Two of the habilitation candidates, Dr. Banasiak and Dr. Klonowska, received the degree with distinction. The doctoral degree with distinction was also awarded to Rafał Nowak, MSc.
Reviewers were appointed in the doctoral proceedings of Maria Nalewaj, MSc, and Anastasia Zaremba, MSc. In addition, the Council appointed a supervisor and an auxiliary supervisor in the external doctoral procedure of Joanna Strzelec, MSc. Supervisors were also appointed for doctoral students of the Doctoral School: Zubbair Hussain, MSc, and Peter Eijlers, MSc. Additionally, an auxiliary supervisor was appointed in the doctoral proceedings of Julian Zachariasz, MSc Eng.
The next meeting of the IBCH PAS Scientific Council will take place in July 2026.
