IBCH PAS at the BIO 2023 Congress in Szczecin

The BIO 2023 Congress took place in Szczecin from September 13th to 16th. It was the fifth BIO Congress and the 52nd meeting of members of the Polish Biochemical Society. This time, the event was organized by the Szczecin Branch of PTBioch, led by Prof. Barbara Dołęgowska. The inaugural Parnas Lecture at the Congress was delivered by Prof. Marcin Nowotny from the International Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The event was attended by 254 participants, including scientists from our Institute. There were 68 lectures in 21 thematic sessions, 44 oral presentations, and 127 poster presentations. The session titled RNA deregulation in disease and RNA therapeutics was organized by Prof. Agnieszka Fiszer, and the session on New trends in structural biology was chaired by Prof. Miłosz Ruszkowski. The Institute was also represented by Prof. Kamilla Grzywacz, who is the editor-in-chief of Advances in Biochemistry, published by the Polish Biochemical Society. She introduced the new members of the society to the publishing opportunities in the quarterly journal.

During the Congress, the Extraordinary General Assembly of PTBioch members passed a resolution to grant the title of Honorary Member to Prof. Andrzej Legocki. This resolution is a recognition of Professor Legocki’s immense commitment to the activities of the Society.

Furthermore, the winners of the Mozołowski Award for poster presentations were announced. The purpose of this award is to recognize young researchers for their particularly interesting presentations of biochemical work. Among this year’s laureates was Julian Zacharjasz, a PhD student from the Department of Non-coding RNAs.

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Marek Figlerowicz and Prof. Zbigniew Warkocki, invited everyone to participate in the next PTBioch meeting in two years. The BIO 2025 Congress will take place in Poznań!
