Commencement of the research project’s realization by Dr. Cherkas

Dr. Volodymyr Cherkas from the Laboratory of Molecular Assays and Imaging, in collaboration with scientists from Ukraine, has commenced the realization of the project entitled “Nanoscale Hippocalcin Signaling in Long-Term Depression in Norm and Primary Dystonia”. The research conducted within the project aims to uncover the molecular signaling mechanisms impaired in DYT2 dystonia, a genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the HPCA gene. Various state-of-the-art techniques will be implemented during the project, ranging from Minflux nanoscopy and SIM live-cell superresolution microscopy to molecular dynamics in-silico simulations.

Dr. Cherkas’s project has received funding from the Polish Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences USA, being one of 18 projects from various scientific disciplines, including astronomy, environmental sciences, mathematics, psychology, materials science and engineering, agriculture, biomedical sciences, physics, and chemistry. The financial support aims to provide outstanding Ukrainian scientists with stable conditions for conducting research that will help rebuild science in Ukraine in the future.

Congratulations and best wishes for success in your research endeavors!
