In the issue of the journal Structure released on November 5, 2026, there is a Spotlight article (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.str.2026.09.008) penned by Prof. Mariusz Jaskólski from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, discussing a recent work published by Ashwin Chari and colleagues (https://doi.org/10.1107/S2059798326007448), which promises a breakthrough in the application of quantum crystallography to structural biology. Quantum crystallography is a new branch covering the most accurate studies of crystal structures, where the goal is to decipher not only the atomic framework of the chemical molecules, but also the distribution of their electrons. In the work in question, the authors developed computational tools allowing routine application of these methods also to the macromolecules of life.
