At the end of September 2026, the Council of Member States of the EU-OPENSCREEN (EU-OS) consortium decided to grant the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS the status of Chemistry Partner Site EU-OPENSCREEN.
The application was submitted by Dr Dorota Jakubczyk from the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry, and the IBCH PAS candidacy received the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
IBCH PAS represents the Chemical Biology Center ERIC, which comprises the Laboratory of Molecular Assays and Imaging and the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry. The Institute is part of the POL-OPENSCREEN consortium, a member of the European research infrastructure EU-OPENSCREEN ERIC. To date, the Institute has participated in the infrastructure as a Screening Partner Site, providing expertise and research facilities in the field of screening.
EU-OPENSCREEN (European Infrastructure of Open Screening Platforms for Chemical Biology) is a European research infrastructure supporting the discovery and development of new bioactive compounds and connecting research centres working in chemical biology. A Partner Site is a centre that contributes its expertise, technologies and research facilities to EU-OPENSCREEN, enabling projects that go beyond the capabilities of a single laboratory.
Obtaining Chemistry Partner Site status expands the Institute’s role to include the field of chemistry, in particular expertise in the design and synthesis of chemical compounds for chemical biology research.
It also creates new opportunities for international collaboration and funding, including participation in European projects and calls dedicated to certified Partner Sites operating within ERIC-type infrastructures (European Research Infrastructure Consortium).
Of particular importance, IBCH PAS is now one of the few institutions in the consortium’s member countries to hold both EU-OPENSCREEN Screening Partner Site and Chemistry Partner Site status.
Congratulations to everyone involved in preparing and carrying out this initiative!
