Last week, the inaugural meeting launching the OMNIPLANT project took place – Omics and Microscopy Network for Integrated PLANT cell analysis, co-financed by the European Union under Measure 2.4 of the European Funds for a Smart Economy programme.

The project is carried out by a consortium consisting of:

• the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences (leader),

• the Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań,

• the Institute of Plant Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences.

The business partner in the project is Diag-Med.

OMNIPLANT was created in response to one of the most important and at the same time most complex challenges facing contemporary science, agriculture, forestry and biotechnology – how to effectively and precisely understand the mechanisms of plant functioning at the level of single cells in order to address the growing problems associated with global climate change, environmental degradation, loss of soil fertility and declining biodiversity.

During the open part of the meeting, the main objectives of the project were presented, along with the research potential and plans of all consortium partners. The closed session focused on administrative, financial and communication aspects related to the implementation of the project.
