We warmly invite you to the 11th edition of the unique series of popular science events, “Science on vacation”, organised by the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
During the summer months, researchers from universities and the Polish Academy of Sciences will present topics from the fields of medical, biological, chemical and social sciences in an accessible and engaging manner.
The events will take place every Thursday in July and August at 7.00 pm at the Conference, Training, and Recreational Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (5/7 Wojska Polskiego Street).
Lecture programme:
• 2 July (7.00 pm): Piotr Mucha, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. – ‘How, where and when did life on Earth originate?’
• 9 July (7.00 pm): Katarzyna Rolle, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. – “The brain in the age of new technologies”
• 16 July (7.00 pm): Prof. Grzegorz Węgrzyn – “Vaccines and vaccination: biological and medical fundamentals, benefits and risks”
Recital: Władysława Węgorek, MSc Eng. – “The Visions of Bob Dylan”
• 23 July (7.00 pm): Robert Pękal, MSc Eng. – “From supercomputers to quantum computers: Will AI accelerate scientific discoveries?”
• 30 July (7.00 pm): Prof. Jakub D. Rybka – “Collagen revisited: from marine sponges to tissue bioprinting”
• 6 August (7.00 pm): Prof. Alicja Węgrzyn – “Summer fish: Baltic or farmed? Facts rather than myths”
• 13 August (7.00 pm): Anna Maria Barciszewska, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. – “Can pain be cured?”
• 20 August (7.00 pm): Luiza Handschuh, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof.– “25 years of human genome research – where are we now and where are we heading?”
These lectures offer an excellent opportunity to combine a summer break with a discussion on the most important challenges facing modern science. See you in Jurata! Project co-funded by the Polish Academy of Sciences.
