October is a special time during which the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBCH PAS) will celebrate three anniversaries:
– the 15th anniversary of the Poznań Chamber Choir of the Polish Academy of Sciences
– the 60th anniversary of the decoding of the genetic code
– he 25th anniversary of the sequencing of the human genome.
We will celebrate these milestones during a jubilee event titled “The Code of Life – the Harmony of Science and Music” on October 17 at 5:00 p.m. in the main hall of IBCH PAS, at 17/19 Wieniawskiego Street in Poznań.
The Poznań Chamber Choir was founded in 2011 on the initiative of Prof. Jan Barciszewski of the IBCH PAS. The choir brings together scientists from Poznań-based institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences who, in addition to their scientific work, share a passion for choral singing. The choir is led by Alicja Szeluga, conductor of one of Europe’s finest girls’ choirs – the Skowronki Girls’ Choir in Poznań. The repertoire is diverse; the ensemble performs compositions ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day and also includes choral arrangements of popular music. The choir is accompanied by the “Skowronki” pianist, Czesław Łynsza.
During the event, Luiza Handschuh, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. – the Director of the Institute will deliver a lecture titled “The Human Genome: 25th Anniversary of Its Sequencing in Poznań.” There will also be an anniversary performance by the Poznań Chamber Choir of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
